Daniel J. Ediger, an Idaho native and graduate of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, will join the Boise office of Idaho Legal Aid Services on Sept. 7. to begin a two-year fellowship. Ediger will enhance access to legal aid for low-income seniors in Idaho through direct representation, community seminars and mobile legal clinics. He will also focus on creating a comprehensive Guidebook to Idaho Elder Law Rights and Options.

JEFFREY HARLAN PENNYS: DOG BITE LAWYER

His website, www.thedogbitelawyer.com, is specific. Jeffrey Harlan Pennys advertises himself as “the dog bite lawyer,” claiming he “is an expert on Pennsylvania and New Jersey laws for dog attacks….” Pennys separates himself from other personal injury attorneys, stating, “ALL I handle are dog bite claims!!… If you look at all the lawyers who advertise online or in yellow pages, you will see they handle everything from car accidents to slip and falls….”

Curiously, the website www.1-800injurylaw.com brings you to the same attorney. On this site, Pennys promotes his personal injury practice, including auto accidents, slip and falls…and dog bites.

There is a difference between focusing on a specific practice area and claiming that’s all you do. Does this credibility example bite the attorney?

I am working on a case in which a private citizen reported to the police that his neighbor had been drinking, got in an argument and left in his car. The tipster reported that the neighbor was drunk and driving. He gave the likely direction of travel and type of car. Cops notified by dispatch saw a car that matched the potential offender’s vehicle and stopped it to investigate. Sure enough they smelled the odor of alcohol, recognized the glassy eyed stare of too many beers and concluded that the occupant should submit to field sobriety tests. End result – DUI.

MEGYN KELLY: KELLY’S COURT

Megyn Kelly, the anchor of America Live on Fox News Channel, has a regular segment titled Kelly’s Court. Kelly takes frivolous pending lawsuits, asks two legal correspondents to argue each side, and then plays the role of judge, such as the case of the rookie Brooklyn teacher who fell down stairs allegedly to avoid a review by her supervisor. A former prosecutor and Fox News legal analyst took different sides of the case.

Kelly, a former corporate litigator who earned her J.D. from Albany Law School, has leveraged her experience for another career. How do you leverage your background?
